NVIDIA vs AMD vs Broadcom: AI Chip Stocks to Watch in September 2026

The Current AI Chip Setup
NVIDIA, AMD and Broadcom are often grouped together as AI chip stocks, but investors should not analyze them as interchangeable companies. Their roles in the AI infrastructure stack are different.
NVIDIA reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $96.2 billion, including $89.0 billion from Data Center. AMD reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $11.5 billion, with Data Center revenue of $6.7 billion, up 107 percent year over year. Broadcom reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue of $29.6 billion and said AI semiconductor revenue was $16.7 billion, up 221 percent year over year.
Those numbers show why the search demand around AI chip stocks is high. But high growth alone does not answer the investment question. Investors still need to compare durability, margin structure, customer mix, valuation and the forecast signal.
NVIDIA: Accelerator Leadership
NVIDIA remains the most direct AI accelerator story. Its Data Center segment is the main engine, and the company continues to benefit from the buildout of large AI factories, cloud AI capacity and enterprise AI workloads.
The bull case is clear: demand stays capacity constrained, next-generation platforms ramp successfully and NVIDIA keeps a software and ecosystem advantage. The risk is also clear: the market may already price in a very large amount of future growth.
- Strength: scale, ecosystem, software lock-in and hyperscale demand.
- Risk: high expectations, export limits, customer concentration and valuation sensitivity.

AMD: Challenger Upside
AMD is the challenger with meaningful data center momentum. Its Q2 2026 report highlighted strong demand for EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs, and management pointed to stronger data center sales in the second half of 2026.
For investors, the AMD question is about execution. If the company converts AI demand into durable share gains, upside can be meaningful. If deployments are slower than expected, the stock can remain volatile because investor expectations move quickly in semiconductor cycles.

Broadcom said Q3 fiscal 2026 AI semiconductor revenue grew 221 percent year over year to $16.7 billion and expected Q4 AI semiconductor revenue of $21.7 billion. The main risk is whether that demand stays broad and durable rather than concentrated in a few large customers.
